Men’s Day – 2022

DSC_0521

Another successful Men’s Day drawn doubles tournament was held at Whangaparaoa Tennis Club on Sunday 15th May 2022.

A solid field of 38 entrants enjoyed a wonderful day’s tennis, along with great food, fun and a lot of laughter.

Winter seemed just around the corner with the day starting with an annoying drizzle. A slight breeze blew the drizzle away but left us with a chilli wind and the cloud covered day rolled on.

Matches were played to nine and the finals had the onlooking crowds cheering to the best of three sets. 44 entries were entered, but several no shows & Covid cases missing in action had the new Tournament director, Jenny Gill having a hard time reshuffling the start table. Well Done Jenny and co-assistant Steven Lay who stood in to help Jenny on her tournament debut. Francee Thornton was the Court Delegator and ran the show with her usual loud voice. All games were played on home turf and it was loads of action packed fun.

Thanks goes to so many lady helpers behind the scenes with local lady chefs preparing and serving wonderful food throughout the day. This years organisers put in a major effort. Thank you Sarah Mayo, Sandy Spence, Karen Shields, Lynda Murdoch, Ani Wood & Francee Thornton. Thanks also to our fabulous bartenders,  Lynda Murdoch, Kerry Morris and Sarah Mayo.

Sponsorship this Year was overwhelming and once again Dave Taylor, Haydn&Rollett led the day with a massive $500 travel prize won by Yuri Sergiyenko. Thank you also to coach Nico Martin, Whangaparaoa Golf Club, Lynda Anon & Northern Tennis. The raffle prize donations were a hit this year, with thanks to Lynda Anon and Annie & Steve Higgins for their generosity.
